Yen glared at her surroundings. Where was she anyway? It looked like she was inside what looked like a giant mushroom and her bed was a startling shade of sweet pink. From the looks of things, she was not in the land of Rand McNally.
Far from it.
“Yeeesh,” she muttered. “Whichever the land is, I hope it has some food.” I’m getting hungry.
“Smurf-Yen! Smurf-Yen!” the little blue cretins chorused. “How are you today, Smurf-Yen?”
It was so cute she wanted to scream.
“MEEEEELLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Mel grinned from the computer console as she watched her friend prowl around the village looking for the way out.
“Smurf-Yen would you like to –“
“No!” She snapped irritably, decking another smurf and causing him to fly out of the village.
“Smurf-Yen would you like to –“
Another flying smurf joined Brainy in some distant smurf pile on the outskirts of the smurf village.
(My, you sure are violent, aren’t you?)
“How would YOU like it if you had to wear a dumb wig, white heels, a white frilly dress and a strange hat?” snapped Yen peevishly. “And I’m short enough – I sure don’t need being 3 inches tall to reinforce that fact. What happened anyway? I thought you were supposed to drop me in Slayers!”
(I have no idea. A glitch maybe?)
“Well, hurry up. I’m getting tired of fending off smurfs. Even a marauding Gargamel right now would be pleasurable to smurfs.”
(Heh heh, how about watering that flower garden of yours…?)
The bright sunny sky suddenly turned cold and chill. Suddenly, the bright and cheery sun didn’t seem so cheery anymore.
(Mel sweatdrops)
(Okay okay!!!!)
Yen sighed and looked at the sky. “Are you done yet? You know, you don’t usually screw up like this. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought – ”
Yen narrowed her eyes. “Mel –“
(snicker)
“MEEELLLLLL!!!!”
(laugh)
“Mel!” Yen waved her fist in the air. “Just wait ‘til I get out of this fic, and I’ll get you big time!”
(And pray tell how are you going to do that while you’re down there and I’m up here?)
Yen waited patiently for her friend’s laughter to stop laughing. Obviously, another tactic had to be employed. She turned up the wattage of her smile. “Look, the sooner that you get me out, the sooner we can start on watching that new anime that you’ve been so obsessed about.” She bobbed her head convincingly. That should work.
(Well - )
“That new anime that you’ve been so obsessed about and you need help to find its manga.”
(Okay. I’m working on it.)
Yen waited smugly in anime world as in the far off distance, faint clacking sounds of a keyboard could be heard. Mel, was if anything else, predictable. Especially when it came to fresh anime.
A sudden voice interrupted her thoughts.
(Uh oh.)
Yen narrowed her eyes. “What uh oh? I don’t like ‘uh oh’.”
(‘uh oh’ as in I can’t get you out – uh oh.)
“Mel ---“ Yen’s tone dropped into a warning tone.
(Hey, I’m serious! Look, even when I hit the ‘escape’ button it doesn’t bring you -)
Suddenly, a distant scream can be heard as Mel popped out from mid-air to land solidly onto the cartoon pixellated ground besides her friend.
Yen looked at the new turn of events.
“Mel.”
Mel blinked owlishly at Yen, startled at suddenly being flattened into a 2d character. “Yes, Yen?”
“What exactly are you doing here?”
A CD falls from the sky.
“Ow!” grumbled Mel glaring at the sky. “What was that for?” Mel complained plaintively at no one in particular.
Yen picked up the CD and frowned.
“Mel, you picked this up at the store the other day right?”
Her friend blinked once more. “Yeah, it’s the new upgrade program from KiAo Enterprises. Got it free for being the 2,435th customer of the day. I wonder what it’s doing here.”
Yen and Mel stare in silence as they suddenly notice a small white slip of paper floating down the anime sky.
Mel grabbed it and started reading it.
“With compliments from Tezuka Shinobu.”
The two of them glanced at each other in horror.
“Uh oh.”
