Disclaimer: They don't belong to me yadda yadda yadda...

Warning: Possible *chibi-Yen mutters* Oh all right, definite OOC and

creative liberties being taken (especially with the elements, gomen) but

hey, that's what fanfiction is for, right? *smile*

And just a reminder:

The fic challenge is:

Write a one-shot FoR fanfic using all of the following:

Kurei

A love interest

Rain

Pocky

A fortuneteller

Kurei looked up at the sky and it's rolling gray clouds and his eyes

hardened. He hated the rain. He supposed some might have theorized that it

was because he was a Flamecaster and his element fire was a complete

antithesis to water which fell from the sky as rain and so on but he really

didn't care. All he knew was three simple truths.

It was going to rain. He had no umbrella. Ergo, he was going to get wet. He

almost growled. He hated getting wet. Ordinarily, he would have simply

created a wave of intense heat to emit from his body, thus evaporating all

the water before it hit but he doubted that the passer-bys would have

imply regarded a young man walking down the rainy street and staying dry

through no visible means as a normal occurance in their ordinary mundane

lives.

He sighed. Which meant getting wet. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. He had

walked to the temple on foot, not wishing for the chaos that was caused

every time he wished to summon a car to travel. It always took them at

least half an hour before they could leave with Neon screaming that she

couldn't leave as she looked, Joker taunting her and causing a minor fight

to break out while Raiha merrily fell on his face every five minutes or so

as they walked to the car.

And that was if he was lucky and the others didn't want to go out as well.

He almost shuddered at the last time the entire gang had tagged along. To

say that Tokyo was never the same was an understatement and he had the

bills to prove it... which reminded him that he still had to go to court

for the civil disturbance charge.

He sighed again. Maybe a long walk alone in the rain by himself was just

what he needed. By himself being key.

"No sir, you need something else and you will find what you do not seek."

"What the..." Kurei started for a split second before his painfully

inculculated composure came to his rescue and he faced the speaker, cool

mask in place.

"Who are you and what do you want?" Kurei asked coldly, but the old man did

not retreat as he had expected, his bright beady eyes instead alert with

curiousity.

"It is not what I want. It is what you need." The old man chuckled softly,

as it at some internal joke as Kurei's face crossed into mild suspicion.

He had not felt the old man coming up and that, if nothing else, that was

cause for alarm bells to ring. Eyes narrowed, he studied the streets,

waiting for the possible ambush.

"Oh do not be so suspicious child. I am but an old fortuneteller who merely

reads what he sees in people's future."

"Then you have nothing to do with me," Kurei retorted brusquely, turning

away. "I have none."

"But everyone has a future." The old man's voice lowered. "And a love."

Kurei stopped, back to the old man, his breath hissing out softly. "And I

repeat, old man. I have none."

Stalking away, his clothes waving slightly in the wind, Kurei strode away,

unaware of the old man''s form slowly evaporating in the wind, a smile on

his wrinkled features. "And I repeat, Kurei, you'll find what you do not

seek.

Several minutes later, Kurei growled softly to himself, berating himself

for the loss of composure. He wasn't certain what had come over him, what

had caused him to merely stomp away and ignore the old man's unusual

ability to come up behind him undetected. Swearing at himself, he turned

back... to a deserted street.

What the... Kurei shook his head. Why the surprise he wondered, it would

have been a simple matter for the fortuneteller to slip into one of the

alleys that opened into the street. In fact, that was probably what had

appened instead of the notion that the old man had just vanished that had

popped into his mind.

Not that he wasn't aware of the possibility of that happening. In his life,

he had seen stranger things than people popping in and out mysteriously,

but just to fuddle his mind? He doubted it.

And just to prove that it had merely been a harmless, crazy old man, he

stepped into the nearest alley, certain to see the street over with many

people crossing. Which he did.

The old man was probably long go... A quiet rustling reached his ears and

tensing slightly, Kurei scanned the surroundings with battle-trained eyes,

his hand moving slightly to hear the comforting sound of the bangles that

adorned his wrist.

*Meow* Kurei's posture relaxed and he shook his head at his own wild

imaginings. It was unlikely that anyone would have decided to attack him,

even alone as he was. Not unless they had a death wish. Kneeling uncaring

on the cold concrete floor stained with some unidentifiable stains that are

best left unidentified, Kurei slowly untied the top of the wriggling

garbage bag and waited.

A small black head immediately popped out and two large blue eyes stared up

at him, an inquisitive meow filling the air.

It was love at first sight.

Sighing softly to himself, Kurei scratched behind the kitten's ears, an

expression on his face that countless others would have been astonished to

see.

Standing up, he looked down at the remains of his suit in disgust and shook

his head. "Now see what you made me do. Ah well... you're free now. Scat."

Turning swiftly on his heel, he stalked back to the mouth of the alley,

aware of the possible commotion in the house once they had discovered his

absence. He grimaced slightly and hurried to stop the renovations the house

would definitely need should he stay away a minute longer.

Well, that was the idea. A plaintitive meow reached his ears, and

reluctantly, his eyes went back to the little cat who had somehow managed

to clamber the rest of its way out and was presently followly his quick

footsteps, while favouring its front right paw.

Cursing at himself, he strode back, and bent down, almost nose to nose with

the tiny animal. "Go home."

It licked him on the nose. Sitting back on his heels, he stared at the

small thing who started biting at his pants.

"What the... stop that." Grumbling slightly, Kurei reached into his

pockets, searching for something to distract it while he made his getaway.

He really had no wish to have a kitten follow him. Especially when it could

be run over on the way. And especially considering what home he lived in.

Opening up the palm of his hand, he took stock of his pocket's inventory.

Two bedraggled mint sweets, a few cents and a couple of yen, a flyer on a

Rubic competition he had been meaning to tell Kogenai about, his keys, and

a box of half eaten Pocky that he had found lying round and had been

planning to scold Ganko about.

Quickly emptying the box, he quickly and competently crushed up the biscuit

sticks into crumbs and fed some of it to the black kitten who wolfed it

down. Slowly transferring the crumbs from his hand onto the groud, he

watched in satisfaction as the kitten continued voraciously on its meal,

apparantly unaware of the change in "table".

Getting up, he carefully moved off, fearful that the slightest movement

would... *meow* He sighed. Too late. Turning back, he saw the kitten

following him again, the meal forgotten as he bravely limped towards the

Flamecaster.

"I rule the Uruha and I can't shake one lousy cat." Shaking his head and

muttering about damn stubborn felines who didn't know what was good for

them, he grabbed the injured cat up and stuffed it into his coat while

making a run for it back to the mansion in the rain.

"And stop moving down there." He muttered, finally ending his litany of

complaints, even as one hand protectively kept it cuddled in the folds of

cloth. "It's not very comfortable down there and you're really hot."

And though Kurei was unaware of it as he walked the rest of his way home,

the warm feeling under his coat wasn't solely due to the kitten.

Notes: And btw, just in case no one got it, or it was too out of sight for some of

you, which it probably was since I have really strange thought processes,

the cat is the love interest :) Okay okay... so not love interest per se

but I was taking it more along the lines as the loving relationship between

pet and master especially since Animal Planet just came on cable <g>

Anyhow, probably doesn't make any sense really but hey, makes for an

interesting WAFF don't you think? :)
