Complaints
~ a WK fanfic by Joppo and Yen ~ We don't own any characters, so don't sue. ^^ We have enough problems already trying to pay our way through college and still maintain a healthy anime / manga diet.
Ken
“I’m too normal! I don’t have any great enemy, any great obsession… well, maybe football, but that doesn’t count! I’m always the nice reasonable reliable guy. I mean, why is it always –
“Ken would you please help those little old ladies across the road?”
“Ken would you please save my kitty cat from the tree?”
“Ken would you please cook for tonight…”
Youji extinguished his cigarette. “That’s because you ARE a nice guy. You have to do nice guys things. It’s in your contract.”
“Yeah, but why can’t I have a great obsession or some angst once in a while? Well, killing my best friend is just a drop in a bucket to everybody else’s angst. I mean, you angst a lot over Asuka even though you’re sort of delusional, Omi whines on how screwed up his life is, and Aya… let’s not even begin with Aya!
“I am not delusional.”
“Since when do I whine??!!”
“…”
“But me - ! My romance was solid and grounded. Even when Yuriko left for Australia, there wasn’t much angst. In fact, there was always the possibility that I’d still call her and we could still get together.”
Youji quirked his eyebrows quizzically. “And that is bad…?”
“No – but why is it always Ken the nice guy? Nice happy easy-going kid-loving Ken… I mean, Aya gets to scream and angst over his sister AND sakura… Omi gets to question his loyalties and the meaning behind his screwed up family… you get to mull over Neu and wonder if she’s Asuka… the only other worthwhile airtime I got was to be the nice boy who get smothered in the arms of some sister and to foolishly jump in just when she was getting to Farfarfello!!!”
Youji shrugged. Don’t forget “looking out for Omi”.
“Precisely!”
“And what is it with me falling down and being clumsy in fanfics?? I am not clumsy!!! Ken is never clum – “
Youji glanced at the pot which Ken had managed to get his foot stuck in while ranting. To say even more would be to aggravate the already aggrieved boy. He shrugged and walked away.
“Hey you make me look normal.”
“That’s not the point, Youji!!!!”
Youji
“I am just stating facts. I know that many people believe that I am since I was trying to mould Neu into Asuka even though I saw her die… erm… shot in front of me… but still, the body was never recovered. I was not able to check whether she was alive or not since I collapsed soon after that and was found some street person who had carried me to the hospital. When I went back, the body was not there anymore… Maybe that had happened to her. Maybe that Takatori #^$(%&#@ picked her up and decided to brainwash her into Neu. That could work couldn’t it?”
“Right, right, Youji,” agreed Omi affably, eyes never leaving the computer monitor as he surveyed his enemies in Quake II. “Anything you say.” On the couch, Ken merely shook his head and Ran turned his attention back to the book that he had been reading.
“I mean you don’t know what sort of sick psychotic things he might have done to Asuka. He might have completely wiped out her memory of me and made her think that he was her saviour and focus of her life. So all I got to do is to get her to remember me!”
“Remember him,” intoned Omi. “Right. I’m sure Neu remembers Youji-kun right, Ken-kun?”
“Do you mean the flowers or the wire?” the soccer player replied drolly. “They are both important landmarks in this relationship! Can’t forget the wire, you know.”
Aya flipped a page.
Youji huffed at his friends. “So she tried to kill me a couple of times. Big deal. Inside, I know she’s still the Asuka I know and love. As long as I try harder, she’ll be sure to remember.”
I hope.
Omi
I do not whine. I am just understandably upset with my circumstance.
Omi paused in his typing and glancing back at the chaos that was happening behind him where Ken and Youji were fighting over whether to watch the football channel or NHK and Aya in the meantime, who was basically trying his best to ignore the noise and squabbles that took place 3 ft away from him.
“Come on Youji, give me back the remote! I was here first!”
“But they are showing a great concert right now! You can watch your football any other time!”
“It’s a live match today!”
“ Then go upstairs and play with those kids you always find so much delight in playing soccer with! That’s even more live than some distant match in England!!”
Aya calmly flipped the page.
Omi laughed quietly so as not to draw attention to himself.
And I don’t mean my predicament here at the Koneko.
Seriously though, wouldn’t you be too if you found out that your father was a major crime boss and had plans for ruling Japan? Plus the fact that when I was kidnapped he didn’t lift a finger to help me? Or the fact that all of my family is really twisted and psychotic? I mean, I met one of my brothers when he was hunting me for heaven’s sake! And it had been for sport! What sort of family had I come from?
“Youji!!!!”
“hahahaha!!!”
Aya calmly flipped the page.
Nor did it make me feel any better when I realized that he whom I knew as my foster father was actually my uncle and then later my real father. That would be traumatic for any person. Does that mean my foster family was actually my real family? I get confused. And it didn’t help that one of my teammates with psychopathic obsessive tendencies did not look kindly on anybody from my family.
Aya suddenly sneezed, and concentration finally broken, realized all the noise that he had been studiously filtering out had resulted from the two of them.
“Hoi, Ken stop banging those pans around the place! I can’t watch my show!”
Ken smirked. “If you can’t take the heat, then get out!”
So here I sit, sans family.
Aya scowled, grabbed the remote that had been forgotten in the midst, and turned the TV off.
Ken and Youji froze at the sudden absence of Sharan Q in the background and turned to see their erstwhile icy leader glaring daggers at them. They stared in helpless silence as Aya calmly removed the batteries in the remote and stalked out of the basement with them, taking his book with him. Ken and Youji stared down at the now useless remote and then up at each other before bickering again.
“Look what you’ve done!”
“Me? It’s YOU who started it!!”
“Omi! Tell Ken-ken that he’s in the wrong. He shouldn’t have banged the pots just now.”
“Listen Omi, you were here, it was Youji’s fault – ”
“My fault? Since when?? ”
Omi laughed.
… and yet… and yet, I am home.
(iii) Aya
I can still hear them from upstairs.
